The DCNE team is growing, bringing more specialized care and faster access to the families and individuals we serve in the DMV area.
We are excited to welcome Erika Clark, LPC, to the Center for Neurocognitive Excellence team. Ms. Clark is a certified School Psychologist and plans to graduate from Howard University with a PhD in School Psychology in May of 2026.
She works with children, adolescents and young adults offering comprehensive psychological testing, ADHD assessments in adults and children, and mental health counseling.
A Clinician Rooted in School Psychology and Community Care
Ms. Clark is a proud DC native who is genuinely invested in the community she serves. There is something meaningful about a clinician who could have gone anywhere and chose to stay, to build her career in the city she grew up in and give back to the families who share her home.
Her background is both deep and wide. She holds multiple graduate degrees in counseling, mental health services, and school psychology.
That depth of training has shaped how she works with clients. Rather than focusing on symptoms alone, she looks at how those symptoms show up in the classroom, affect performance, and carry over into home life.
As many parents have experienced firsthand, finding a clinician who understands the full picture of how anxiety, ADHD, and school stress intersect can be difficult. If you have already tried other routes and still feel like something is being missed, that is often because the clinical and educational pieces are being addressed separately.
Ms. Clark bridges both, bringing her school psychology training and clinical experience together in a way that gives families a clearer, more complete picture of what their child is going through and what to do about it.
Areas of Focus: Anxiety, ADHD, Trauma, and More
For many children and young adults, challenges rarely show up in isolation. Anxiety and ADHD often overlap. Trauma can affect behavior at school. School stress sometimes feeds into bigger emotional struggles at home. Her training spans the areas that intersect, so she looks for it all:
- Anxiety and depression
- ADHD and attention challenges
- Trauma and grief
- Emotion regulation
- Behavioral challenges
- Identity development
- School-related stress

Supporting Children, Families, and the Systems Around Them
A lot of parents come to us having already sat through meetings, read reports, and still left feeling like they did not fully understand what was being said about their child. Ms. Clark is passionate about changing that experience. She works to make sure families feel informed, involved, and supported throughout the process, not just at the end of it.
Families navigating school systems and community mental health services often need more than just a diagnosis. They need someone who can help them work through the confusion and figure out what to do next. That starts with building a therapeutic environment where both the child and the people around them feel safe, heard, and supported.
A Strengths-Based, Trauma-Informed Approach to Therapy
Feeling safe in a therapeutic space is just the starting point. What happens from there depends on an approach that is built around the person, not a one-size-fits-all framework. Ms. Clark is intentional about creating an environment where clients and their families feel empowered, not just evaluated.
She uses a strengths-based, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed lens. Her primary therapeutic modality is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and she weaves in creative expression and mindfulness techniques drawn from her background as a visual artist.
Beyond therapy, Ms. Clark also brings expanded testing capacity to families across the DMV who are looking for answers.
Child Psychological Testing and ADHD Assessments in the DMV
For families in Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia, that means greater access to ADHD testing and comprehensive psychological assessments for children without the long wait times that are common in the DMV area.
Getting a clear, accurate picture of what is actually going on and why is the foundation of effective support. Whether a family is seeking answers for the first time or revisiting a previous diagnosis, thorough testing provides the clarity needed to move forward with confidence.
