ADHD Assessment

We’ve learned that certainty provides relief.  Be certain if you have ADHD. An ADHD assessment at the Washington, D.C. Center for Neurocognitive Excellence will give you that certainty. Our assessments include one-on-one assessment with a therapist. Once our assessments are completed, we will help you develop a plan to address your needs.  Creating the plan will give you specific steps to address your issues and develop your strengths.

Individual Therapy

Our treatment for takes a variety of forms, depending on the needs of the client. For deeper emotional issues, we recommend a traditional supportive therapeutic relationship, looking at the roadblocks that prevent real change. These sessions usually consist of a minimum of 6 sessions and can continue on for years if necessary.  For others, a pro-active goal-oriented coaching relationship may be more effective.  We will work to provide the plan that is right for you and you change and grow.

Neurofeedback Training

It is as easy as watching a movie and as effective as stimulant medication for ADHD, according to the most updated research. Neurofeedback works by placing electrodes directly on the head which send your brain activity to a computer program used by the therapist. The therapist uses the computer to send signals to the movie you’re watching that dims or lightens the screen and sends a sound to speakers to train your brain. Neurofeedback training improves focus, reduces impulsivity, and increases emotional control.

ADHD Diagnostic Evaluation
An ADD/ADHD evaluation is a targeted diagnostic assessment of childhood and current symptoms, designed to diagnosis or rule out ADD/ADHD. The evaluation consists of three sections: The first is a clinical interview to gain a better picture of your childhood and current problems. The second is a number of questionnaires and assessments that assess for executive functioning and other ADHD symptoms. Finally, all the data is compiled and your therapist will provide you with the results and a plan to help you move forward.  If you do meet criteria for ADD/ADHD, different treatments options will be provided. Call our testing specialists now at 202-570-7795 to get an accurate picture.

Comprehensive Evaluation
A comprehensive evaluation assesses an individual’s emotional, educational, and behavioral functioning. This is the evaluation that is needed for extra time on standardized tests like the SAT, GRE, LSAT, etc. This evaluation is designed to diagnose or rule out ADD/ADHD and related concerns like learning challenges and anxiety, while also exploring one’s strengths. The assessment begins with a clinical interview. Next, the client completes performance based assessments and questionnaires with the testing psychologist. This takes 6-8 hours and is often split into two sessions. The testing psychologist also works with teachers, family members, and others who know the client well to round out the important information. Finally, all the information is compiled and you are provided with the results and individualized recommendations. Each client has the opportunity to ask all their questions and speak about the results. Additionally you will be provided with a written report. After the results are discussed with you, the testing psychologist is available to provide consultation and support, including attending IEP meetings.
