Be the parent who had the courage to get their child tested for ADHD. Further, be the parent who trusted their gut to get help when they weren’t sure what to do. Be the parent that shows their children that help isn’t scary.
An ADHD test will help show your child an important aspect of who they are. It will help show them how they operate in the world. Further, it will make them see that they are loveable with or without ADHD. It will help them lead happy and richer lives.
ADD and ADHD Test for Children in Washington, DC
Our Director, Schuyler Cunningham, is featured on WebMD’s special on ADHD testing for children.
In this video, Schuyler talks about the assessment process. He discusses what is included in the process. He talks about the final report that you get after the assessment. And how to start building a team to help you and your child.
Symptoms of ADD and ADHD in Children
Bouncing off the walls. Class clown. Always leaving class to go to the bathroom. Hyperfocusing on one activity and neglecting others. Leaving things at school or at home. Being late. A hard time moving from one emotion to another.
The most common picture we have of a child with ADHD is a young rambunctious endearing boy. But recent research has pointed out the unique challenges girls with ADHD face. For example, girls often mask their ADHD behaviors because they aren’t socially acceptable. This leads to girls being diagnosed later on average. It also leads to more serious problems as they mature.
An ADD or ADHD test for children does not mean they have ADHD. It means they have something going on that is worth investigating. If your child was ill and you didn’t know why you’d go to the doctor to be sure. Do the same for mental health.
An ADD or ADHD Test for Children Will Help
We have tested countless children and adults over the years. Additionally, we know how to talk to your shy child. We know how to focus your child who seems to go in a million different directions. Further, we know how to listen to you as a parent. We know how to understand your point of view. And we don’t dismiss it, like many other health care providers.
The testing process alone makes people feel heard and understood. That should be your standard for mental health care!

The Center for Neurocognitive Excellence’s Approach to ADD and ADHD Testing for Children
The Center for Neurocognitive Excellence is featured in ADDitude Magazine’s Top ADHD Clinics in the Northeast for our clinical excellence.
We take a whole-child approach to our ADD and ADHD tests for children. We include the caregiver – often a parent – the child, and a third party. This gives us subjective and objective information about the child. This allows us to see your child as a whole person. We mainly test children 12 years of age and older.
In addition, we will meet with a caregiver to listen to your experience and observations of your child. We will meet with the child to hear their point of view too. Also, we also seek input from a third party – either a teacher, counselor, coach, religious leader or another person who knows your child well.
We use a continuous performance test to assess your child’s performance in following directions. Additionally, we give you, your child, and third-party questionnaires to complete.
We write a full report. In it, we detail the process, our findings from that process, and our results and recommendations.

Neurofeedback Training
DCNE also uses cutting-edge neurofeedback. Try neurofeedback if you’re sick of talking about your feelings. Another great reason to try it is if talk therapy isn’t working.
Neurofeedback trains your brain wave activity. It is easy and you don’t have to learn any new skills. Your brain will learn through the training. Also, you will be able to “see” what is contributing to the challenges in your brain. After the training, you will be able to “see” how it has improved.
